The orientation of karate plus yoga is to associate karate practice with that of yoga. Its mission is to offer support to anyone who regularly practices karate or yoga and who wishes to progress in the joint mastery of these two disciplines.
Karate and yoga complement each other as part of a holistic approach to health (physical, mental, and energetic), well-being, self-expression, and self-affirmation. The two disciplines also complement each other when it comes to harmonizing the Self with certain moral and spiritual values.
For karate practitioners, we offer karate classes. We also aim to accompany them in their martial progression (whatever their style) by helping them to gradually master important elements of yoga (postures, breathing, and concentration methods). We also offer yoga classes. But our action also aims to support regular yoga practitioners in their progression by familiarizing them with some essential elements of martial practice (basic techniques and principles to practice simple, flexible exercises).
This is an ancient practice. One thousand five hundred years ago (in the 6th century), for example, an Indian monk – the legendary Bodhidharma – introduced to the Shaolin temple (China) a practice combining martial arts with exercises derived from yoga. He aimed to unify the physical, psychic, and energetic dimensions of the individual, to facilitate meditation, and to achieve a more harmonious and deeper spiritual experience.
Small-group practice
Karate and yoga classes are held in small groups (4 to 6 people). The same applies to the three-hour workshops (5 to 12 people). This facilitates individual attention and interaction with the teacher. It also makes it easier to monitor each participant in terms of techniques, physical alignment, and breathing rhythm.
To summarize class and workshop content is more easily appropriated and retained by participants working in small groups. This last point is important, as our aim is for participants to be able to use the tools they have acquired independently and to pass on these new acquisitions to other colleagues (in their dojo or studio).
Contact us: regular classes occur in small groups at the Shōten dojo in Miguasha (municipality of Nouvelle, Quebec). The dojo is not open to the public, as space is limited. For this reason, regular participation in a small group is by invitation only. To obtain an invitation, please get in touch with Dalil Maschino directly. Together, we’re sure to find a solution to meet your needs.
Open activities (group courses, introductory workshops, development workshops, and intensive sessions (series of 2 or 3 workshops) are held in locations that vary according to the number of participants and the nature of the requests (local or outside the region).
